There is There Here

Los Angeles is an un-self-conscious menagerie of collected identities where heterogeneity and homogeneity become synonyms without any anxiety. Within the city, one finds dozens of other cities – or at least their images – that are contained within a district as easily as they are within a single block or even an interior.

Within the framework of a collective master plan, students will develop a proposal for a city within/at the scale of a building that in the manner of a heterotopia exists as a “there” within the “here” of Los Angeles. Each proposal will culminate in a 150,000 sf footprint mix-used housing development located on a selected site within the collective master plan.
