Work by Emily Sherman & Steven Katz (both MArch '22) — “Outside | Outside”
Completed for Fall 2021 Advanced Topics Studio "Bucolic Forest," led by Georgina Huljich
The presence of fog and “bosquesitos” or “little forests” characterize this project, set in the Sierra Nevada mountains: “White walls and terracotta roofs resonate with the ‘pueblo blanco’ vernacular of southern Spain and the region of Andalusia. Entering the bosquesito for the first time our guest immediately notices a temperature shift as the wildlife in the canopy above observe their new roommate. There is a vent in the wall where fog is seeping out … Our guest opens the door to the pool and a fog fills the interior of her unit … The height of the walls performs as a backdrop to an urban experience where our guest begins to forget she’s in the Spanish Sierra Nevada.”
