Individually Together
Work by Camila Gomez (MArch '28, BA '25) for Yara Feghali's 2025-2026 section, first-year MArch core studio, "Inside Outside Architecture."
As the next generation looks upon the despairing reality they may never be able to buy a home, more young adults are becoming encouraged to make the process a joint venture with friends. To live independently, but never too far away from your chosen family.

This project proposes a community land trust based program for groups of young professionals looking to get their start at “individually living together” as first-time home buyers. Units are designed in parallel clusters, a primary and ADU, allowing for purchase single or conjoined residences. A walkway “skewer” connects all three clusters, coalescing them into a collective housing complex. All main entrances, with the exception of two JADUs, are located along the raised skewer. These, alongside pockets of terraces and open space, incentivize heavy use of the skewer. Each north face opens using perforated accordion louvers, creating opportunities for semi-exterior kitchens and terraces.
