SPACE WARS: Kuwait Pavilion Venice Beinnale, 2021

Aug 29, 2021

The Kuwait pavilion responds to the theme How will we live together? through the discovery, interpretation, and projection of the hinterland. Surrounding the city and seemingly unoccupied, the hinterland serves as the nation’s functional staging ground through resource extraction, agricultural cultivation, military installations, and cultural sedimentation. As the radial city’s imminent growth looms, the status of these spaces remains in question. Through an in-depth inquiry and analysis of the hinterland, projecting spatial defences, offences, or alliances, a future is defined for these spaces under threat – threat from extinction, overuse, domination and, at times, of being forgotten.
