AIA elevates Farooq Ameen (MArch '89), Jonathan Moody (MArch '08), Pierluigi Serraino (MArch '99) to prestigious College of Fellows

Feb 23, 2025

UCLA Architecture and Urban Design alumni Farooq Ameen (MArch '89), Jonathan D. Moody (MArch '08), and Pierluigi Serraino (MArch '99) are among the 93 architects elevated to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2025 College of Fellows. AIA Fellows are "recognized for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society," the AIA writes. Less than three percent of AIA members nationwide hold the title, signified by the initials FAIA.

Ameen, Moody, and Serraino will be honored with the rest of the Class of 2025 Fellows at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design (AIA25) in Boston in June 2025.

AIA's fellowship program was developed to elevate architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level. Prospective candidates must have at least 10 years of AIA architect membership and demonstrated influence in the field.

Farooq Ameen is the Founding Principal at City Design Studio in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the A+D>Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles and the Council on Open Building. Ameen is the author/editor of numerous publications including deCoding Asian Urbanism, Contemporary Architecture and City Form: The South Asian Paradigm, and 50 Under 50: Innovators of the 21st Century. He has held academic appointments at various institutions including the Southern California Institute of Architecture (Los Angeles & Lugano, Switzerland), Woodbury University, Calpoly Pomona and the Bauhaus, Dessau.

Jonathan D. Moody is CEO of Moody Nolan. His work resides at the intersection of architecture and service—bringing transformational design to under-resourced communities. He believes architecture is a medium through which people can come together and participate in positive change. Through Moody’s leadership, Moody Nolan has expanded to 12 locations nationwide with 350 professional staff. As CEO, Jonathan is driven by a passion to continue the legacy of his father, Curtis Moody (1950–2024), in diversifying the practice of architecture. His dedication to advancing diversity garners national attention, recently earning Moody Nolan the 2021 AIA Architecture Firm Award.

Pierluigi Serraino is an architect, author, and educator with extensive knowledge of architectural photography. The author of many books on architecture, including Modernism Rediscovered, his articles and projects have appeared in Architectural Design, ArCA, Global Architecture, Hunch, Construire, Architettura, ACADIA, and Journal of Architectural Education. Prior to opening his independent design practice, Serraino worked on a variety of residential and institutional projects in the United States and overseas at Mark Mack Architects; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; and Anshen+Allen. He has lectured in museums and institutions of higher learning on postwar American architecture, California modernism, architectural photography, changes in architectural practice, and digital design.
