UCLA AUD Spring 2025 Events: Taylor Dover, “Nice to Meet You”

April 21, 2025, 5:30 pm, Perloff Hall Decafe

Taylor Dover is Head of the Digital Body team at Studio Olafur Eliasson and founder of Introduce Studio.

Since 2013, Dover’s work with artist Olafur Eliasson has encompassed large-scale public commissions, temporal installations, and virtual experiments, including works such as The curious desert (2023), Seeing spheres (2019), Your view matter (2022), Earth Speakr (2020), and research with Digital Body (ongoing). From 2014 to 2022 Dover was an Associate with Studio Other Spaces (SOS), the architectural counterpart to Eliasson’s artistic studio. At SOS, Dover was project lead for Common sky at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (2018-2022); Future Assembly, realized for the 2021 Venice Biennale; and the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre in Greenland (competition, 2016).

Introduce Studio is an architectural practice rooted in design-based research of habitual environments, founded between Berlin, Germany and Greenville, South Carolina. Dover was the 2016 Rotch Scholar, where his travel based research centered around Mapping Dispositions, a study of serial occupations of landscapes and the everyday built environment in Botswana and Japan. He is a graduate of the GSD at Harvard University and Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

‘Nice to Meet You’ presents multi-disciplinary and trans-scalar works from Studio Olafur Eliasson and Introduce Studio, to ask the question: How can we rethink design as a ‘meeting up’ amongst intentions, inhabitants, materials, landscapes, and histories? Looking through the lens of such a ‘prehensive occasion’ opens possibilities to notice and design for being together with ourselves and our environments, and suggests models for embracing the potentials of uncertainty and encounter.
