Motomi Matsubara
Lecturer
Motomi Matsubara is an architectural designer and researcher based in Los Angeles.
Motomi started his multidisciplinary studies, approaching architecture through the engineering perspectives in Keio University (B.Eng), and deepened his architectural insights at Kyoto University (M.Eng). He then moved to L.A. and completed his Master of Architecture degree at UCLA AUD, graduating With Distinction.
Currently Matsubara is taking charge of several residential and multi-scaled housing prototype projects with Sharif, Lynch: Architecture, including the research-based proposal for Education Workforce Housing project with UCLA cityLAB, and unique ADU projects tackling the changing urban landscape in the Los Angeles area.
Meanwhile, he is conducting research on “fillet”, the rounded corner, which has evolved from modern industrial culture. He is attempting to delve into the formal-realities of the fillet that bridge different scales and mediums, from products and architecture to graphical user interfaces (GUI).
